Middle Grades Programs Evaluation
The Western
Institute for Research and Evaluation (WIRE)
evaluators found positive results from the
middle grades programs for students in grades
seven through nine.

The most recent WIRE
study tracked performance levels among 772 JA
Personal EconomicsÒ
students, 868 JA Enterprise in ActionÒ
students, and 824 JA International
MarketplaceÔ
students in several geographically diverse
areas.
JA
Students outperform their peers
JA students scored
significantly higher on objective-referenced
tests than their non-participating peers.
JA Enterprise in ActionÒ
students scored 17.5 percent higher than their
non-participating peers, and JA International
MarketplaceÔ
students scored 14 percent higher.
ESIS

In 2001-2002, WIRE tracked
performance levels of 1,059 students in the
Economics of Staying in SchoolÒ
(ESIS) program. Students’ scores reflected a
knowledge gain of 30 percent after participating
in the program.
