            Financial Advisor Role

·        Provide guidance and assistance to students.

·        Look for “teachable moments” to mentor students throughout the day.

·        Monitor and verify students’ work progress.

·        See that necessary JA Finance Park materials are collected at the end of the day and that the students leave the work area as they found it. (This is the students’ responsibility.)

L           Locating Important Information

·        Student information and directions are located in the Student Portfolio that you will distribute to students.      

·        Questions or concerns you aren’t equipped to answer should be referred to a JA Finance Park staff member.

·        Fire exit doors are marked.  Evacuation information will be reviewed at the start of the day.

Expectations for Financial Advisors

·        Please wear your nametag.

·        Food and drinks must remain in the restaurant area.

·        At the end of the day, please leave this Financial Advisor Guidebook in the business area.

·        According to state law, this is a smoke-free facility.

·        Cell phones should be turned off or set on “vibrate”.

Expectations for Students

·        Students must remain inside the Park area for the entire day.

·        Students should be respectful of all persons and property in the Park.

·        Students must consider their entire assigned family when making all budget decisions.

·        Students eat lunch during The Final Commitment time period. All food and drinks
must remain in the Restaurant area.

·        No gum or candy is allowed in JA Finance Park.

  Sample Daily Schedule

(15 minutes)                Opening and General Information

·        Introductory PowerPoint presentation.

(45 minutes)                The Truth Revealed

·        Students report to assigned place of business and receive Life Situation Profiles.

·        Students complete Net Monthly Income (NMI) worksheets.

·        Students complete Budget Guidelines worksheets.

 (45 minutes)                The Big Search

·        Students collect Option Sheets from each business.

·        Students acquire Investment Portfolios.

·        Students submit housing and transportation loan requests.

·        Students record opening stock prices. 

(1 hour)                       The Budget Puzzle

·        Students report to assigned places of business to study collected Option Sheets.

·        Students make final budget decisions based on Actual Budget Guidelines.

·        Students complete Guidelines and Actual Budget worksheets.

·        Students record midday stock prices.

·        Students begin Checkbook Registers. 

(75 minutes)                The Final Commitment (lunch)

·        Students finalize budget decisions by making all payments.

·        Students record closing stock prices.
